HKBU International Writers’ Workshop 2027 Writers-in-Residence Programme

Applications are now open for the 2027 Writers-in-Residence Programme at the International Writers’ Workshop (IWW), Hong Kong Baptist University.

This fully funded 4-week literary residency in Hong Kong is open to published writers from around the world. The programme runs from 26 February 2027 to 25 March 2027 and ends with the IWW Literary Festival themed “Inheritance”.

There is no application fee.

Eligibility Criteria:

You must meet these requirements to apply:

  • Have at least one published literary book with a recognized press (self-published books are not eligible)
  • Currently live outside Hong Kong
  • Have a functional command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)

Residency Requirements:

  • Attend the full programme from 26 February to 25 March 2027
  • Join the Welcome Ceremony in the first week
  • Participate in the Literary Festival during the final week (sharing a piece of writing is encouraged)

Required Documents:

  • 1-page Artist’s Statement in English or Chinese (if in Chinese, add a short English summary)
  • 10–12 pages of recent creative work (fiction, poetry, nonfiction, drama, etc.) with translation if needed
  • CV or resume
  • Contact details (email addresses) of two referees

Format: 12-point font, 1-inch margins.
